today was mother’s day, and as usual, my boys made it perfect for me.  first thing this morning, finn burst into the bedroom and said “happy mother’s day mommy!” as clear as day, which was awesome.  he gave me my presents too, which were great. he picked out a really cute “piggy” necklace for me (it’s actually a little hippo, but that’s okay) and some feather earrings, and gavin got me a massage gift card and a dvd. it was all super nice.  it was chilly and overcast today, so we went bowling in the morning and then out to lunch, which was really nice. the waitress was IN LOVE with finn. she told us so many times how cute he was, what a funny personality he had, and how he communicated better than kids she knew twice his age.  he had his mumble with him (a penguin we bought him in hawaii that he has named after the happy feet penguin) and he showed it to her, and was just being super charming and sweet.

finn was a bit of a pill going down for his nap, but i think he had a bad tummy, so that’s okay. it was kind of hilarious when i went in and made him lay down, and i said “now GO TO SLEEP, finn wallace!” and finn said, “i no wanna go to sleep, krystle leigh (which is more like kistle ee in finn speak)” and i couldn’t help cracking up.  the things he says are so ridiculous sometimes, he never stops making me laugh and marvel that me and gavin made such a funny, adorable little dude.

we spent the whole afternoon doing chores, but i was happy to get so much stuff done. gavin and i worked together to make a fabulous dinner consisting of turkey burgers, pasta salad and some cinnamon buns. now gavin is putting finn to bed while i relax for a few minutes, and then it’s back to business as usual tomorrow! i had a great day, though.

we also had a lot of fun on saturday, when we went to the museum to see dinosaur bones again. here, let me overload everyone with photos!

i took finn to the zoo today, for the zillionth time. i didn’t think it was going to be super warm, but it turned out to be rather hot. the sun was blazing as soon as we got there, so i was happy to find a stray bottle of sunscreen in the backpack so i could slather us up.  i was quickly wishing i had worn shorts instead of jeans, but we had fun anyway. it was yet another adventure of carrying the backpack, pushing the stroller and having my 32-lb chunker demanding i carry him, but whatever, i’m used to it! i did get him to ride in the stroller for a while, but by the end, i was completely exhausted. we rode the carousel, as always. i bought him a dinosaur sipper with juice since i forgot to bring any drinks (only had snacks), and we saw loads of fun stuff.  we met gavin for lunch after we finished at the zoo, and then we came home and finn crashed. i worked on my novel for a while and then fell asleep for a little while myself.

otherwise, i’ve just been doing loads of cleaning this week.  laundry, dishes, vacuuming and swiffering the kitchen, vacuuming the living room and our bedroom, making delicious dinners… it’s been a busy week but at least i’m feeling productive.  hopefully this weekend can be relatively relaxing to make up for it. it’s supposed to rain most of the weekend so it sounds like we won’t have much of a choice but to stay inside and hibernate!

finn is over 2.5 years old now, which is crazy. he talks so much it drives me crazy sometimes! my absolute favorite thing is how he can say “i love you, mommy” now, and he says it all the time. he tells me he misses me, he knows his full name (“i’m finn wallace!”), he makes up cute little stories (“and then kitty said meow meow i’m gonna get you finn!”).  he cracks me up and exasperates me.  he LOVES other children, so gym class is always the highlight of his week.  his sleeping is still kind of ridiculous, but everything else is so nice i don’t worry about it. although, his talking also includes the dreaded “i hate you guys” when we tell him no or something he doesn’t like. we always tell him that’s not a nice thing to say and we don’t use the word “hate” in this house, but it’s a work in progress.  we need to work more on potty training, but i think he’s very close to ready.  overall, things are awesome and i can’t believe how big and smart he is. he’ll be almost 3 for our vacation to new hampshire in september! how in the world did my tiny little newborn turn into this adorable big boy?

here’s a surprise – finn’s sleep schedule is WRECKED. i figured this would happen, since he just doesn’t do well when he’s been taken out of his routine for a while. it’s a pain in the butt, but hopefully he’ll get back on track soon. he slept in the bed with me last night and spent half the night kicking me, and also fell out of the bed. it’s only like a foot off the floor so he was fine, but i didn’t get any decent sleep at all. hehs!
